When we were at the Grand Canyon I picked up a few brochures and magazines (I have a problem with brochures, it’s in my blood) about things to do in the surrounding area and farther out into Arizona. Well I came across an article about Winslow, Arizona and for those of you born in the 70’s (60’s and perhaps into the 80’s) when you hear the words Winslow, Arizona chances are you will start singing to yourself… well I’m a running down the road tryin’ to loosin’ my load…. Take it Easy… Take it Easy. So my next step was to see if Winslow, Arizona was on the way to our next stop, we were heading to Albuquerque, New Mexico after the Grand Canyon and low and behold It was! This gave us a chance to check out part of the famous historic Route 66, to say we had been on it and check out “that corner in Winslow, Arizona where a girl in a flat-bed Ford, slowed down” By the way this “corner” is actually a public park, Standin’ on the Corner Park.
It was pretty cool. It seemed to the passer by (us) that THIS corner in Winslow is all that there is in Winslow, but we found it, parked the camper on the side of the street, hopped out of the car and ran over to take a picture. There were a lot of people doing the same thing. How cool. I loved it and of course we sang Take it Easy for the rest of the trip.
