When we purchased our Forest River Salem Travel Trailer in April 2015 we were looking into memberships to buy that would help us save money on camping and provide us with fun camping options. By purchasing our travel trailer at Camping World we received a 3 year membership to the Good Sam Club which is a network of campgrounds that you can receive a discount at, very help to have because the amount of campgrounds that offer a Good Sam discount is huge. Another membership program we came across was called Harvest Hosts. Harvest Hosts is a group of Wineries, Farms, Museums (and more) that allow you to park on their property for FREE, if you are a member of their program. Well they had me at Winery! That’s all I needed to hear was we could camp at a winery, looking out our camper window at the beautiful scenery of grape vines and beautiful landscaping and I was in.
More details to come on both the Good Sam Club and Harvest Hosts in future posts.
Stop 28 brought us to the BIG state of Texas, and to Canyon, Texas in particular. We called ahead and made plans to stay at this particular winery that was on our way down to Austin. We arrived on a Monday, the winery was closed, but this is the cool party of Harvest Hosts, it’s such a friendly network that the actual winemaker was there at the winery making a new batch of wine and gave us a wine tasting all to ourselves. It was really cool to participate in a wine tasting with the winemaker and learn all about how he started and got to be where he was that day. The wine was delicious and we purchased a bottle to take back to the camper.
The scenery was gorgeous in this area of Canyon, Texas. We did not have any hookups on that stop, some harvest hosts do offer electric and water or just electric, but for the most part you have to assume you’ll be dry camping.
