Take the setup one step at a time. Learn before departure, then practice before the highway.
Confirm the truck configuration, manufacturer ratings, trailer loading, hitch compatibility, tires, brake controller and electrical connections. A calculator cannot inspect equipment or establish driver readiness. Ask for a hands-on orientation when collecting the rental.
Learn the brake controller operation from its manufacturer instructions, verify lights and brakes, and practice turning and backing in a suitable open area. Plan for the combination’s length, height and stopping distance. Follow manufacturer instructions for hitching and checks.
Confirm campground site dimensions and access with the campground. Secure cargo, check the setup before travel and after stops, and follow applicable road rules and equipment instructions. If the setup or loading changes, recheck ratings and scale weights. Delivery is an optional alternative when you prefer not to tow.
