Some of a trailer’s weight pushes down on your truck. That weight matters as much as the weight being pulled.
Tongue weight is the vertical load at a conventional hitch. Pin weight is the vertical load through a fifth-wheel hitch in the truck bed. Both consume truck payload, but they need different connection equipment. Never treat them as interchangeable.
Cargo placement, water and gear can change hitch load. A brochure’s dry hitch weight is not a loaded-trip measurement. WeRV staff maintain actual rental trailer data; renters supply their own truck’s ratings and loading.
The receiver, ball, coupler and other components each have limits. Weight-distribution equipment must be permitted and correctly set up for the combination. It redistributes axle loads; it does not raise the truck’s GVWR, GCWR, axle ratings or payload.
